Those Grey Bottles
Ever wonder why most of our bottles are grey? Here's a hint, its not for aesthetic reasons (although the grey is pretty cool).
These bottles are made from 100% post-consumer RECYCLED plastic, with no added pigments. They are all 100% recyclable again too. We are super proud of this, and it is an on-going story.
For years we approached manufacturers to try and get someone who would be willing to put re-cycled plastic through their blow-mould machines and because of the plastic being more grainy than virgin plastic, no-one was willing to risk their machines. Enter Wayne from PackNet. He was the first manufacturer who was willing to sit down and have the conversation with us. Wayne developed the Earth Care Range and he is as passionate as us about recycling. We agreed that we don’t even want a pigment in the plastic which would make the bottles white as this is again adding something which is not needed.
The process is on-going and we have faced a few issues over the years, from un-even moulds, blocked machines, massively different shades of grey. Even a shortage on product from our recycling plant! But when we look at the pictures of the recycling plant and see how we are taking plastic out of the system, it is all worth it!
Here is a little glimpse of what it all looks like.
First the plastic arrives at the plant in these huge bags. Often offering a little income to people in dire need.
Next the plastic is sorted and baled, ready for processing.
Lastly, the plastic is crushed, ready for washing, melting and ultimately molding into our loved little grey bottles
