The evolution of our Grey Bottles
Ever wonder why most of our bottles were grey? Here's the short version: it was proof of our commitment to true, no-fuss recycling.
For years, our bottles were made from 100% post-consumer RECYCLED plastic, with no added pigments. This lack of pigment is what resulted in the honest, beautiful shades of grey. They are, and always will be, 100% recyclable again too. We are super proud of this, and it is an on-going story.
The Game Changer: Local Innovation
We've faced a few issues over the years - from uneven moulds to massively different shades of grey - because recycled plastic is grainier than virgin plastic. For a long time, manufacturers were unwilling to risk their blow-mould machines.
Enter PackNet. They developed the Earth Care Range and are as passionate as us about recycling, becoming the first manufacturer willing to sit down and try to solve the pigment problem with us.
The big news? We're moving over to crisp, clean white bottles! But this isn't about aesthetics; it's about Better science and local innovation.
We now have a machine right here in South Africa that can separate the colours from the recycled plastic without any chemical additions or manipulation to make it white.
This means our new white bottles are:
-
Still 100% post-consumer recycled
-
Still 100% zero pigments used
-
Still 100% recyclable
-
Now even more sustainable because the innovative local process uses less energy and fewer resources than past methods.
